The Brainerd school board last night set a new local tax levy of $2,624,042 to comply with the new state law which limits the tax levy. The amount set is a reduction of 31.69 percent from 1970.

The coldest weather since Jan. 1961 hit Brainerd in the wake of a 5 1/2 inch snowfall over the weekend as the official thermometer plummeted to a -17 overnight.
