20 years ago (1989)

As a youngster, Robyn Abear had cold feet about the idea of stepping onto the ice. But after cruising the ice at the Brainerd Civic Center this member of the Vacationland Figure Skating Club is an accomplished skater and has earned double gold medal status.

30 years ago (1979)

(Photo: Members of the United Paperworkers International Union last week attended a Christmas party catered by Van's Caf at the Brainerd Armory. About 500 Potlatch employees and retired employees attended. Beverages provided by Fruth Beverage.

40 years ago (1969)

The Brainerd School Board voted to provide bus transportation to rural students attending St. Francis Catholic school beginning Jan. 5. Mrs. Richard Knudsen, speaking for a St. Francis delegation said 102 of 104 such schools are provided bussing.

60 years ago (1949)

Mable Koering set a new high in the Women's A bowling league with a 627 for three games. She also had the high single game of 230. Her scoring helped Land O'Lakes score the high team game and high series of the night, taking three from Consumer Oil.

80 years ago (1929)

A product of steel in the form of a snow plow has been produced by a 20 foot by 50 foot factory at Borden Lake, powered by electricity. B.H. Allen says if business continues as briskly as it has, Borden Lake will become a thriving young manufacturing center.

100 years ago (1909)

With pleasure, it's a boy was the statement signed by the clerk of court on a box of cigars in the attorney's room at district court. W.A.M. Johnston was stepping spryly and mother and son are both doing nicely. The judge kindly excused Johnston as a juror.
