Leland W. Jensen

MERRIFIELD -- Leland W. Jensen, 73, Merrifield, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.

He was born April 20, 1929, in Franklin to Knute and Ruby (Muenchow) Jensen. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He married Deloris Hammill on July 19, 1953, in Milaca. He worked at a sawmill for two years, drove a school bus in the Crosby school district for 13 years and then farmed in the Merrifield area for 35 years. He retired in 1993. He was a member of the American Legion in Nisswa, Post No. 627.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Lonnie Jensen, St. Cloud, Tim Jensen, Merrifield, Shawn Jensen, Merrifield, and Gayland Jensen, Thief River Falls; two daughters, Terri Leyk, Vadnais Heights, and Lorri Jensen-Smith, Merrifield; his mother, Brainerd; five grandchildren; and a brother, Marvin Jensen, Merrifield.

His father, a brother, Knute Jensen Jr., and a daughter, Wendy Jensen, died earlier.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ossipee Community Church in Merrifield with Pastor Ralph Hegman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Center Township.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd and an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
