Jim Esser, the son of Steve and Linda Esser of Baxter, was named a finalist in the World Association of Computing Machines programming contest. Esser, a student at the University of Minnesota, and two other students beat about 140 teams and won the North Central Regionals in the 27th IBM-sponsored International Collegiate Programming contest.
