20 years ago (1989)

Season openers traditionally don't bring out the best performances in high school athletes. But the Warrior gymnastics team altered that pattern with school-record scores in two events as they won at Grand Rapids with a 140.7 to 127.5 victory.

30 years ago (1979)

Rushing to a quick 18-6 lead, Coach Dick Juillerat's Warrior basketball team found time to work on passing and steal tactics in a 76-42 smashing of the Elk River Elks. Brainerd shot 54 per cent from the field, with four of five starters in double figures.

40 years ago (1969)

Six-foot freshman forward Terry Grewe of Deer Creek, bidding to become the most prolific scorer in Brainerd State Junior College history, poured in 46 points in the Red Raiders 96-92 squeeze past Hibbing JC.

60 years ago (1949)

A 36-year-old man, surprised early this morning while burglarizing the Time Jewelry store on Laurel Street, surrendered to police after being shot in the chest and after a lengthy chase. The man is also suspected of robbing the Brainerd Theater at gunpoint.

80 years ago (1929)

The Princess Candy Store crashed its way into first place in the men's bowling league with a season high total of 2754. Jerry Schrader is happy, leading the team with a big 574 total, including 209 and 213 games. Harold Olson lent support with a nice 546 series.

100 years ago (1909)

There will be a meeting of the Anti-Saloon League at the Gibb's school house on December 12. E.R. Knutsen, the piano tuner, is in town on his regular visit. Please leave orders for service at the Ransford Hotel.
