WALKER -- The Cass County Board on Thursday authorized land exchanges with the state to transfer all state leased land to county ownership.
The county will then offer all former state leased lots for sale to current leasees. Any lots not purchased after four years by those occupying them will be offered for sale at an auction, said Land Commissioner Norm Moody.
Proceeds from the land sales will go for land department operations, Moody said.
Acreage the county will transfer to state ownership lies in Wilkinson, Smoky Hollow, Thunder Lake, Maple, Moose Lake, Pine Lake, Kego, Sylvan, Becker, Bungo, Remer, Inguadona, Fairview, Meadow Brook, Wabedo and Ansel Townships.
Each must contain some lakeshore. All leased lots are on lakeshore.
Leased lots the county will receive lie in Ponto Lake, Woodrow, Crooked Lake, Trelipe, Smokey Hollow, Pine Lake, Gould, Otter Tail Peninsula and Unorganized Townships.
