CROSSLAKE -- Gerald J. Payonk, 73, Crosslake, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
He was born Aug. 17, 1928, in Strandburg, S.D., to John and Ellen (Dahlgren) Payonk. He was educated in Strandburg and worked at the railroad when he was younger. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked at Terrazzo for Venice Art Marble Co., and Dale Tile Co., in Minneapolis from 1947-1951. He married Lois Tilbury on May 15, 1954, in Canby. They lived in Minneapolis from 1954-1960. They moved to Sauk Rapids from 1960-1973. In 1973, they moved to Ideal Corners and he worked for various ceramic tile companies around the Crosslake area for 32 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Jenkins VFW Post No. 3839 and the Pequot Lakes American Legion Post No. 49.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Catherine Ann Isaacs, Pine River; two sons, Craig, Pequot Lakes, and Curt, Crosslake; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six sisters, Hazel Rogers, Minneapolis, Clarice Ordahl, Apache Junction, Ariz., Helen Bolling, Milaca, Donna Rieman, Finlayson, Jeanette Mellen, Big Lake, and Connie DeRemer, Minneapolis.
His parents, an infant sister and five brothers, Maurice, Russell, Stanley, Leonard and Donald, died earlier.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Northland Funeral Home Chapel in Pequot Lakes with the Rev. David Stevens officiating and military honors provided by Jenkins VFW Post No. 3839 and Pequot Lakes American Legion Post No. 49. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery in Strandburg, S.D.
Friends may call from noon until services Monday at Northland Funeral Home in Pequot Lakes.
