Wayne Compton, Jason Klaverkamp, Jessica Bock and Tiffany Mattson, Brainerd, members of the Brainerd Chapter of DECA, a youth organization of marketing students, recently attended the fall leadership conference in Bloomington, at the Sheraton Bloomington. The conference allowed students to explore leadership qualities in themselves. They are given situations to react to and must decide what they would do as a group. Compton and Klaverkamp are co-presidents of the organization, Bock is historian and Mattson is the secretary.
Breeanna Teigland, daughter of Sherry and Scott Pitmann, Little Falls, and James Teigland, Little Falls, and Levi Morris, son of Robert and Tracy Morris, Aitkin, have been selected as Students of the Month for December, a recognition program sponsored by the Youth Activities Committee of Brainerd Elks Lodge No. 615. Teigland is involved in concert choir, intramural volleyball, DECA and National Honor Society. She plans to attend St. Cloud State University. Morris is involved in speech, one-act play and National Honor Society. He is a member of peer helpers and a two-time grand champion for art at the Aitkin County Fair. He plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Morris for theater/theater education.
Sarah Pedersen, Baxter, is currently studying abroad this semester in Florence, Italy. She is a student at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.
Stewart Sawdey, son of Cathy and John Taylor, Nisswa, and Michael Sawdey, Bloomington, was to have participated in the Augsburg College 26th annual Advent Vespers Service, this past week at Central Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis. The program was titled, "Love Beyond All Telling." He is a member of the Augsburg College Choir.
Brittany Halaas, Baxter, performed in Bemidji State University's presentation of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" for students from area high schools. She is a freshman majoring in theater and psychology and was the light board operator.
