20 years ago (1981)

St. Joseph's Hospital, a part of Brainerd since 1901, announced yesterday the eighth major construction program in its 80-year history, a proposed $10.4 million addition and remodeling project.

30 years ago (1971)

On Wednesday the new lobby at St. Joseph's Hospital will be opened to the public. All visitors coming to the hospital are asked to use the new lobby. Parking is available to the north of the hospital adjacent to the new lobby.

40 years ago (1961)

Yesterday's vote total easily set a record for a city election in Brainerd. The total of 4,290 was nearly 1,000 higher than the previous high of 3,293 in 1939.

60 years ago (1941)

Four-lane highway to Nisswa planned. Three county men formed as a Committee of Appraisers, went out today to view premises condemned for construction of a four-lane, separated highway between Nisswa and Brainerd.

80 years ago (1921)

Experienced Driver: "You're a murderer."

Learner: "How so?"

Experienced Driver: "You've killed the engine."

100 years ago (1901)

Lady: "Now, little boys, can any of you tell me what commandment Adam broke when he ate the forbidden fruit?"

Tommy: "Please, ma'am, there wasn't any commandment then."
