Hazel Elvira (Esklund) Larson, 91, formerly of Pequot Lakes, was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Good Samaritan Society-Bethany in Brainerd.
Hazel was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Waseca, Minn. She was the youngest of eight children. After completing high school, she graduated from nurses training and worked as a registered nurse at St. Lucas Hospital in Faribault. She was united in marriage to Edward Larson in 1940 and they spent 68 years together. In 1966, Hazel and Ed moved to Pequot Lakes where they owned and operated Timber Ridge Resort and the Outpost Grocery in Jenkins until their retirement in 1981.
Hazel enjoyed attending church activities, quilting, crocheting, painting, dancing (Heartland Squares) and spending time with family and friends. She especially appreciated the compassion that was shown to her by the residents and staff of the Bethany Assisted Living.
Our sweet Hazel will be missed by her survivors, three sons, Tom (Marlee), Bob (Jeanne) and John, all of Brainerd; grandchildren, Laura (Aaron) Johnson, Jill (Matt) Thompson, Tony (Amy) Wittmann, Adam (Pam) Larson, Shannon Larson, Misty (James) Nielsen, and Jonathon (Anna) Larson; step-grandchildren, Sarah, Joe, Michelle, Gordy and Phillip. She also was blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Seth, Emily, Hannah, Shaylyn, Justin, Zachary, Jaxon and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Hazel will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes with the Rev. Loren Anderson-Bauer officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd.
