Simply Fine raises funds for Ski Gull
Kathy Bjork, owner of Simply Fine, the new men's hair cutting area in the Fine Line Salon and Spa in Brainerd, is donating 50 percent of proceeds from Simply Fine through the end of the year to Ski Gull.

Dance team slightly downbeat over results
The Brainerd Warrior High School dance team hosted its first dance invitational Saturday, placing second in high kick and fifth in jazz in Class 3A.

Baxter facility request on hold
The city of Brainerd will wait for an undetermined amount of time before acting on a request from Baxter for additional capacity at Brainerd's wastewater treatment facility.

Hilding "Bill" Nelson, 89, resident of Daggett Brook Township, rural Brainerd, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at his home, the same home in which he was born on Aug. 13, 1918, to Erick and Rosanna (Olson) Nelson.

PILLAGER - Herbert Woodhouse, age 79, of rural Pillager, passed away at his home Sunday morning, Dec. 2, 2007.

DEERWOOD - Eugene Herman Jordan, age 66, resident of Deerwood, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at St. Joseph's Medical Center. Eugene was born on Feb. 19, 1941, in Mankato to Gilbert and Lucille (Schmidt) Jordan.

WACONIA - Conrad Bane Mager, age 60, born in Brainerd, currently of Waconia, passed away Nov. 27, 2007. Preceded in death by mother, Gertrude. Survived by father, Wilbur; brother, Eric; and many friends. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery was held on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007.

ROYALTON - Aloysius "Al" Kaiser, age 87, of Royalton, Minn., passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Royalton. Arrangements are with the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Royalton.

PILLAGER - Herbert "Herb" E. Woodhouse, 79, of Pillager, died at his home Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the First Lutheran Church in Pillager. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Interment will follow services on Thursday at the Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager.

JoAnn 'Jackie' Gilbertson
LAKE SHORE - JoAnn "Jackie" (Brekken) Gilbertson, age 75, resident of Lake Shore, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at St. Cloud Hospital. Jackie was born in Little Falls, Minn., Sept. 14, 1932, to Harry and Bessie (Pierzina) Posch. She married Howard C. Gilbertson Oct. 7, 1982, in Paulsbo, Wash. Jackie and Howard had been residents of Bloomington prior to moving to Lake Shore 25 years ago. She was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Nisswa.

LITTLE FALLS - Lloyd E. Tidd, 82-year-old resident of Little Falls, Minn., passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at his home in Little Falls.

Koehn, age 88, of Paynesville and formerly of Mound, who passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville. The Rev. Cheryl Williams will officiate. Open Forum
With oil prices temporarily halted at the psychological $100 (per barrel) barrier Congress needs to wake up. The $100 barrier will be broken just like the $3 gas barrier. We will soon look back at $3 gas with nostalgia.

GUEST COLUMN: We all need to work together
I want to thank the Dispatch for reprinting Superintendent Jerry Walseth's words that urge us to look ahead at what we are going to do for our future. He is asking for community members to get involved, for new volunteers to come forward and he is inviting the business community to do some brainstorming; for all of us to be part of the solution. His message needs repeating and highlighting.

Ohio State, LSU to play for BCS title
One victory. That's all Missouri and West Virginia needed to ensure a trip to the BCS National Championship Game. Neither team had to worry about scenarios, voter swings or computer recalculations. They just needed to win to get in.

Pierz defeats Pine City

Curling rescheduled
The curling league held at Hallett Community Center in Crosby was canceled due to weather Dec. 8. Games have been rescheduled for Dec. 15.
