The 2004 Brainerd Dispatch All-Area Football Team consists of 20 seniors and two juniors.
Coaches nominate players who are then selected by the Dispatch sports staff.
Jason Rikala, Aitkin
Rikala led the Gobblers with 18 receptions for 410 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, he had one interception and 34 solo tackles.
Pete Hiltner, Brainerd
Helped Brainerd average 357 yards and 30.2 points per game.
Brady Prince, Brainerd
Prince led the Warriors with 1,217 yards and 17 touchdowns on 238 carries. He averaged 5.1 yards per rush, received academic all-state honorable mention.
Will Kassulker, Brainerd
Kassulker led the Warriors with 162 tackles. He added two pass breakups.
Korey Horn, Brainerd
Horn finished with 131 tackles, had one fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, one interception and one safety. He was an academic all-state first-team selection.
Brett Abrahamson, Brainerd
Abrahamson finished with 126 tackles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, six pass breakups, one extra-point block and one defensive touchdown.
Clinton Strother, Brainerd
Strother finished with 64 tackles, two forced fumbles, one safety and one pass defense. He rushed 56 times for 333 yards, a 5.9 per carry average.
Derek Olson, Brainerd
Olson helped Brainerd average 357 yards and 30.2 points a game.
Laffin led the Rangers the 808 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 157 carries for a 5.2 average. He caught three passes for 16 yards.
Defensively, he had 104 tackles, one interception, one fumble recovery, one pass deflection.
Christian Even, Pierz
Even led the Pioneers with 1,777 yards rushing and 23 touchdowns on 217 carries for a 8.2 average. He also had 11 receptions for 323 yards and three touchdowns. He was 2-for-2 passing with another touchdown.
Defensively, Even had six interceptions and seven pass defenses with 55 tackles.
Nathan Britz, Pierz
Britz led the Pioneers with 138 tackles. He added one sack, three interceptions and three pass defenses. He helped the Pioneers rush for 4,037 yards and throw for 1,096 while averaging 35.1 points.
Matt Mrnak, Pierz
For the second straight year Mrnak led the area with nine sacks. He added 50 tackles, 10 hurries and two pass defenses. He helped the Pioneers rush for 4,037 yards and throw for 1,096 while averaging 35.1 points.
Warren Gall, Pierz
Gall finished with 1,433 yards and 20 touchdowns on 203 carries, a 7.1 average. He caught 11 passes for 108 yards and was 6-of-10 passing for 79 yards.
Defensively, Gall finished with 30 tackles, one fumble recovery and seven pass defenses.
Wagner gained 1,162 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. He averaged 6.8 yards per carry. He added 142 tackles, four fumble recoveries and five forced fumbles.
Mertens led the Cardinals with 1,405 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns, he averaged 7.3 yards per carry. He was fifth on the team with 47 tackles.
Cory Detloff, Staples-Motley
Detloff was the second-leading Cardinals tackler with 67. He added four sacks. He played a vital role on a Cardinals offensive line that helped three players surpass 1,000 yards rushing and the quarterback to throw for 1,089.
Joe Smith, Staples-Motley
Smith led the Cardinals by throwing for 1,081 yards and 17 touchdowns on 52-108 passing. He also rushed for 1,089 yards and 15 touchdowns on 109 carries.
Tyler Fisher, Verndale
Fisher led the Pirates with 1,402 rushing yards, 14 touchdowns and a 6.8 average. He caught eight passes for 103 yards and two scores.
He led Verndale with 117 tackles and added two tackles, one forced fumble and two interceptions.
Isaac Johnson, Verndale
Johnson led the Pirates with 1,144 passing yards and 17 touchdowns on 67-of-155 passing. He added 282 rushing yards and six touchdowns for a 4.5 average.
Johnson had 108 tackles, one forced fumble and three interceptions.
Andy Bramer, Verndale
Bramer led the Pirates with 31 receptions for 702 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also rushed for a 23-yard touchdown.
He added 88 tackles, five sacks, four fumble recoveries, two interceptions and one forced fumble.
Nick Grewe, Bertha-Hewitt
Grewe led the Bears with 2,468 yards and 32 touchdowns on 278 carries. He caught nine passes for 59 yards and accounted for 2,527 of the team's 3,729 total offensive yards.
Defensively Grewe finished with 155 tackles, two interceptions and three sacks.
He added 12 kick returns for 383 yards and two touchdowns and eight punt returns for 98 yards.
Kyle Mlynar, Aitkin
Mlynar led the Gobblers with 474 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 88 carries, a 5.4-yard average. He added 12 receptions for 293 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively Mlynar had two interceptions and 12 solo tackles.
Sam Catlin, Aitkin
Catlin led the Gobblers with 3 fumble recoveries and 39 solo tackles.
He led an offensive line that helped Aitkin pass for 1,067 yards and run for 1,028.
Kiel Browne, Brainerd
Browne finished with 117 tackles, 1 fumble recovery and one interception.
Anthony Hennen, Brainerd
Hennen finished with 150 tackles, two interceptions, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, three pass breakups.
Geoff Roberts, Brainerd
Roberts rushed for 854 yards and 11 touchdowns on 151 carries, a 5.7 average.
Carl Sneep, Brainerd
Sneep finished with seven catches for 89 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 12.7 yards per reception

Horn rushed for 379 yards and three touchdowns on 72 carries, a 5.3 average.
On defense he added 90 tackles, one interception.
Zebroski led the Tigers with 460 yards rushing on 101 attempts. He caught four passes for 43 yards.
He finished with 72 tackles.
Eveland finished with seven receptions for 178 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for 170 yards on 50 attempts and added 45 tackles.
Anderson led the Tigers with 78 tackles.
Zach Martin, Staples-Motley
Martin led the Cardinals with eight sacks and added 57 tackles. He also grabbed 11 receptions for 273 yards and six touchdowns.
Tom Adamietz, Verndale
Adamietz finished with 708 rushing yards, nine touchdowns and a 6.1 average. He had five receptions for 33 yards.
On defense he added 66 tackles, three fumble recoveries and one interception.
Casey Greer, Verndale
Greer finished with 106 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He had 28 carries for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
Nathan Runyan, Verndale
Runyan had 16 receptions for 242 yards and two touchdowns. He added 57 tackles, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

Heltemes helped the Wolverines rush for 1,890 yards and pass for 599.
