Tricia Betley of Aitkin; Logan Mohs, Quinn Nystrom and Briana Tower of Baxter; and Mackenzie Ross and Jessie Svoboda of Brainerd competed at the 12th annual Granite City Classic last month at the MAC in St. Cloud.
Competing against skaters from four states, Betley, an Aitkin High School freshman, placed first in Open Pre-Juvenile Freestyle, third in Open Pre-Juvenile Compulsory and fourth in Open Pre-Juvenile Artistic.
Mohs, a Franklin Junior High School freshman, took first in Bronze Solo Dance and third in Open Juvenile Artistic.
Nystrom, a Brainerd High School senior, placed fifth in Open Pre-Juvenile Freestyle.
Ross, a Brainerd High School junior, placed second in Open Juvenile Artistic and Open Juvenile Spins and fourth in Bronze Solo Dance.
Svoboda, a Brainerd High School senior, took fourth in Open Pre-Juvenile Compulsory.
Tower, an eighth-grader at Franklin Junior High School, placed fourth in Pre-Juvenile Artistic.
Coaches attending the competition with their students were Melissa Hannah, Mary Sundquist, Dianah Klatt and Pam Yarbrough.
Area skaters also advanced in skill levels by testing before a three-judge panel in November. Mohs passed his Bronze Dance test. Ross tested Bronze Dance, Tower and Ashley Drake tested Pre-Juvenile Moves and Kayla Engisch tested Pre-Preliminary Moves. Klatt passed her Senior Moves test.
