AITKIN -- The Aitkin High School Treble and Freshmen choirs, along with the Copper Handbell Choir, will perform a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Aitkin High School Auditorium.
The concert will open with the Copper Handbell Choir, directed by Kelly Blake, playing "Processional" by Jeffrey Hall and an arrangement of "Jingle Bells" by Cynthia Dobrinski. As a final selection they will ring " Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" arranged by Valerie Stephenson.
The Aitkin High School Treble Choir, directed by Blake and accompanied by Becky Klingelhofer, will sing the traditional "Ukranian Bell Carol" arranged by Walter Ehret, a Mexican folk song called "A La Nanita Nana" (Murm'ring Lullaby) arranged by David Eddleman and "The Sussex Carol" arranged by Corin T. Overland with Marie Plagge playing the flute.
The 60-voice Freshmen Choir, directed by Bryan Johnson, will sing "Sing Alleluia, Clap Your Hands," composed by Sally Albrecht. Their second carol has both an original melody and lyrics by Nancy Price and Don Besig. However, the audience will hear the familiar sounds of "Go Tell It On the Mountain" in the accompaniment. "A Special Wish" was written by B.W. Stevenson and then later arranged for mixed voices by Jay Althouse. The final selection performed by the Freshmen Choir will be a staged version of "Good King Wenceslas" as written by James Leisy. Playing the King will be Tom Stromberg. Becky Lammers will portray the page.
Acting the part of the peasant will be Nick Nadeau. The narrator will be Nicole Fiske. The Treble Choir will return to the stage and sing "Sleighride" and "Where Are You Christmas" with Lisa Crowther singing the solo.
Santa Claus (Bob Lake) will appear for the song "Santa Baby" choreographed by Amanda Westerlund, and Kara Bartel will sing the solo.
The concert will close with the Treble Choir singing "Peace, Peace" by Rick and Sylvia Powell with the Freshmen Choir leading the audience to sing "Silent Night."
