Brett A. Miller, age 26, of Park City, Utah, formerly of Hackensack, Minn., died at his home on Nov. 17, 2003, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born March 11, 1977, in Yankton, S.D., to Gary and Sharon Miller. He spent his formative years living with his parents in Battle Lake, Minn., and later moving to Hackensack, Minn. Brett attended Walker Hackensack Akeley School until his senior year when he transferred to National Sports Academy, Lake Placid, N.Y. While attending high school Brett was active in cross country skiing and cross country track. While at National Sports Academy he trained for competition in the sport of biathlon. He became a member of the United States biathlon team in 1997, competing internationally. He was employed by Marker Ski Company.
Survivors include his parents, Gary and Sharon Miller of Hackensack, Minn.; two uncles, Doug Miller of Redfield, S.D., and Jack Jaragoske of Montrose, Colo.; one aunt, Illa Becker of Redfield, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elaine Miller and Frank and Ruby Jaragoske of Redfield, S.D.
Memorial services will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at the Union Congregational Church in Hackensack, Minn.
Memorials may be sent to the Brett Miller Benefit fund, 1914 County 5 NW, Hackensack, Minn. Memorial fund gifts will be designated for skin cancer and melanoma education and in part for supporting aspiring athletes in the sports of biathlon, alpine skiing or motocross.
