Boxers win three matches

Three members of the Golden Lakes Boxing Club won their matches at Clearwater last weekend.

Justin Specht (130 pounds) decisioned Jake Schoenleben of St. Cloud, Mike Moe (130) beat Alex Lunsby of St. Paul and Nate Rubin (115) decisioned Andy Deyaeger of St. Cloud. Rubin improved his record to 5-0.

At 65 pounds, Fred Kersten lost to Benjamin Ewing of Grand Forks.

Brent and DeWayne Steward of Wadena boxed at Fergus Falls Nov. 23 and at Clearwater.

At Fergus Falls, Brent beat Danny Ruiz of Willmar and DeWayne decisioned Tyler Holtin of Fergus Falls.

At Clearwater, Brent decisioned Josh Gilbert of St. Cloud and DeWayne defeated Tim Taggert of Lake Lena, a 2-time competitor in the Silver Gloves Nationals.

T.J. Steward also boxed at Clearwater in the main event, losing to 3-time Upper Midwest champion Rodney Jefferson of St. Paul.

Six members of the Golden Lakes club and Brent and DeWayne Steward will box in the state Silver Gloves Tournament Saturday and Sunday at White Bear Lake. Winners advance to the 4-state in tournament at Mahnomen in January.

Ernster to speak to boosters

Brainerd Warriors girls' hockey coach Jim Ernster will speak to the Brainerd Sports Boosters Club meeting, which begins 7 p.m. Thursday at the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen, 923 Oak St.
