BHS dance team nails first kick meet

The Brainerd High School dance team nailed its first Central Lakes Conference meet of the season Tuesday in Sartell.

Head coach Cindy Clough said winning the kick competition was exciting.

"We didn't have any real big mistakes," said Clough. "The girls worked real hard, they care and are a coachable team. All the teams are looking good this season. Rocori is the best I've ever seen them ... they haven't ever been on our radar. The level of competition keeps going up.

"This coming weekend will be a tougher meet."

Brainerd placed first, followed by Sartell, second; St. Cloud Tech, third; Rocori, fourth; St. Cloud Apollo, fifth; Alexandria, sixth; Sauk Rapids, seventh; Willmar, eighth; and Fergus Falls, ninth.

The first place win puts Brainerd in a good position. Clough said Brainerd will receive nine points from the CLC meet that will count as part of the team's score at the end of the season at the conference championship meet. Clough said the conference made a decision last year to change the way it scores its conference meets to make them more competitive.

Brainerd will host its next dance meet Saturday. Brainerd will compete in Class 3A. Brainerd also will host Class 1A and Class 2A competitions. Other area teams competing will be Aitkin, Crosby-Ironton, Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus.
