MADISON, Wis. - Clarence Wendell Meyers, much loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, pastor and teacher, born July 25, 1927, home with Jesus and Mom, Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007.
"Wendell" was born in LeRoy, Minn., a small southern Minnesota town, son of Clarence and Edith Meyers. He grew up enjoying hunting, fishing and trapping in the woods and streams around his hometown. He served in the Navy in the Philippines during World War II. Following his time in service he attended Sioux Falls Bible College, Sioux Falls. S.D., where he met and married Virginia Marie Burger. Virginia's lyric soprano voice joined with Wendell's strong baritone made for years of amazing duets as they served together in various churches in St. Paul, Brainerd and Motley, Minn. Wendell was choir director, vocal music instructor, pianist and Bible teacher to many people starting with his wife, daughters and son, and continuing with grandchildren and many dear friends. Wendell spent several years as a radio personality on KVBR Radio, Brainerd, Minn., during the 1970s and 80s. He pastored Riverside Community Church in Motley, Minn., during the 1990s and early 2000s. Since September 2003, he has been the "Grandpa in Residence" to all the children and teachers at Tanya's Big House 4 Kidz, Verona. Wendell is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Tanya (Dennis Cook) Michele (Dan Ramsey); son, Henry Barr; brother Gordon Meyers; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Greeting Wendell in Heaven are his wife, Virginia, his parents, and his sister, Kathy.
Memorial services will be held at Spirit of Faith Church, 6723 Seybold Road, Madison, Wis. at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given in Wendell's name to HospiceCare Inc.
