On the wings of the wind
Dave Haugen of Hood River, Ore., sailed his "Snofer" on the smooth ice of North Long Lake Sunday. Haugen, who wind surfs in Oregon, came to Northern Minnesota for the early ice to sail his machine, which is adapted to snow-covered lakes, as well as sheer ice. Gusty winds powered the wind driven machine several miles an hour Sunday afternoon.

FFA contest
About 80 students from 16 schools competed in poultry identification and job interviewing, as well as fish and wildlife, using the Natural Resources and Horticulture Lab space provided by the college. Top finishers advance to FFA's state competition in April at the University of Minnesota.

Leo Marvin Hurley
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Leo Marvin Hurley, formerly of Arlington, Texas, passed away on June 29, 2003, in Arlington, Va. He was born May 23, 1918, to James Francis Hurley and Jenny Johnson Hurley at home in Fort Ripley, Minn. Mr. Hurley began his career as a teacher in rural Minnesota and became a principal before joining the Army Air Corp as a pilot and flying instructor during World War II.
