NIMROD -- Allegations of election improprieties in Nimrod are being investigated by the Wadena County Sheriff's Department.
Chief Deputy Stephen Young said the probe involves complaints made by two unsuccessful candidates for city office, Debbie Yates, a council candidate, and Linda Branstrom, a mayoral candidate.
The allegations involve improprieties, alleged to have taken place before September's primary election and again before November's general election, according to a news release issued Monday. The candidates also allege that violations of the law took place during the counting of ballots that were cast in Nimrod and that violations may have occurred once the ballots were counted.
The investigation was requested by County Attorney Jon Edin.
Young would not elaborate on the nature of the improprieties and Edin could not be reached this morning.
Yates and Branstrom could not be reached today.
