ELMDALE -- Edward Retka, 80, Elmdale, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at the V.A. Medical Center in St. Cloud.
He was born May 20, 1921, in Swan River Township, Morrison County, to Charles and Theresa (Singer) Retka. He served in the Army from Oct. 2, 1942, to Feb. 28, 1946, during World War II. He was in the 692nd Field Artillery Battalion as a cannoneer, serving in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. After being discharged, he moved to Swanville Township to farm.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Fussy, Bowlus.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Elmdale with Rev. Gregory Mastey officiating. Burial will be in St. Edward's Parish Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Military rites will be conducted by the Little Falls VFW Post No. 1112.
