20 years ago (1989)

The Brainerd Public Utilities Commission, although persistent, has found it difficult to convince the city council that it needs new facilities. It has suggested a location on County Road 48 in Baxter, adjacent to land owned by the city.

30 years ago (1979)

Jamie Templeton's only doubt was if he would get a chance to take the final shot. But as soon as it left his hand he knew the 35-footer was good as his last second shot provided the difference as the Warrior basketball team beat the Little Falls Flyers 61-60.

40 years ago (1969)

(Photo) It's moving in day at the North Star high rise home for senior citizens. The process began yesterday and more than 40 people are settled into their new home. The Brainerd Jaycees are offering their assistance to unload and unpack.

60 years ago (1949)

Six key basketball players, three each from the A and B squads, were declared ineligible because of academics, seriously hampering tonight's battle against Bemidji and Saturday's against Anoka. Coach Fred Kellett had planned to use all his players.

80 years ago (1929)

Twelve-year-old Miss Mattie Temple was seriously hurt yesterday while sliding down the Grove Street hill on skis. She was standing on her skis and tried to avoid a hole when one ski came off. She hit an iron pipe requiring 17 stitches in her leg.

100 years ago (1909)

There is little change here in the situation regarding the railroad switchmen's strike, now in its second day. No freight is being received here and the local freight house is now emptied of everything that had already arrived here. Businesses are being affected.
