BAXTER -- Kenneth G. Magloughlin, 74, of Baxter, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at his home. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Seamus Walsh officiating. Interment will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by the Brainerd American Legion Post No. 255. Visitation will be at Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. with Parish Prayers at 7 p.m. They will also receive friends Thursday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Brenny Funeral Chapel.
He was born July 19, 1929, in Dilworth, Minn. He attended school in Dilworth and graduated high school in 1947. Later, he went on to graduate from Moorhead State Teachers College in 1951. In 1956, he married Mary Ann Palmer of Perham. Together they moved their family to the Brainerd lakes area in 1959. Ken served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1948 to 1974. He was on active duty from 1952-1953 during the Korean War. He worked as a teacher in Moorhead. He was also employed by International Harvestor in Fargo and worked as an auto claim representative with State Farm Insurance in the Brainerd lakes area for 33 years. He was a member of many organizations in the community including: Marine Corps League, V.F.W., American Legion, Brainerd Area Amateur Radio Club, Crow Wing County Disaster Command Team, Emergency Communications Team, Brainerd Area Memorial Day Committee, All Veterans Memorial Committee, and as Administrative Coordinator of Toys for Tots and Toys for Kids programs. In 2000, he was honored as Brainerd Senior Citizen of the year.
Ken is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; daughters Dianne (Liebeg) of Hampton and Joan of Duluth; sons Jerry of Fort Collins, Colo., and Kevin of Detroit; four grandchildren, Christine Liebeg, Brian Liebeg, Andrew Magloughlin and Katie Magloughlin; stepmother Audrey Magloughlin; sisters Arlene Pribbenow of Detroit Lakes and Bunny Bartness of Dilworth; and many nieces and nephews. His parents and brother Donald preceded him in death.
