20 years ago (1982)

Two fish houses on White Sand Lake became victims of an unseasonable warm spell. Many area anglers, encouraged by an early season cold snap, moved their fish houses onto the lakes early this year only to watch them sink as temperatures in the 50s thawed the frozen lakes.

30 years ago (1972)

Frigid temperatures took an early grip on this area over the weekend with the mercury dipping all the way down to 18 below in the pre dawn.

40 years ago (1962)

Ice fisherman posed a question that is being asked by many others in the area. Spearing season opened this weekend, but it did little good for area sportsman as balmy temperatures kept the lakes free of ice.

60 years ago (1942)

80 years ago (1922)

The high wind of Thursday left its trail through Brainerd in broken glass. A large plate glass window in the Harrison Hotel was blown in and numerous globes carried off from the street lights.

100 years ago (1902)

J. N. Omen has discovered a monstrosity which he is showing his friends these days. He killed a nice fat chicken recently and in preparing it for the cook found that the hen had two hearts, perfectly formed and in good condition.
