Gregory Niemi and Levi Hillyer, Pierz Healy High students, placed in a computer art contest sponsored by TIES, a consortium of 36 Minnesota school districts, and Tech4Learning Inc. Niemi received first place for his work titled "Twin Freedom" and Levi Hillyer placed second for his work "To the Republic for which it Stands." The students received software for their classrooms.
A representative from Alexandria Technical College will be at Brainerd High School at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Brent Potvin, the son of Cindy and Bill Potvin of Brainerd, is enrolled at the University of St. Thomas for the 2002-03 academic year. Potvin is considering a major in biology.
The following area students from St. Francis Music Center in Little Falls were awarded a $100 Laura Jane Musser Merit Scholarship to be used toward their 2002-03 tuition: Abra Fisk and Golden Fisk, both of Fort Ripley; Layna Diehl, Lyssa Diehl, Anna Pfohl and Joshua Pfohl, all of Little Falls; and Isaac Toenies, Randall. Certificates of honorable mention were awarded to the following area students for their excellent auditions: Frank Jeffries, Little Falls; and Naomi Toenies, Randall.
The following students from Riverside Elementary School were named students of the month for October: Amanda Kunde, Angie Wickham, Justin Davis, Patrick Erickson, Taylor Johnshoy, Maiah Maki, Ashley Hines, Drew Miltimore, Kayla Kraemer, Louis Grabowski, Lindsay Lortz, Haley Uselman, Paige Boileau, Halee Goodrich, David Penner, Bria Ramsdell, Molly Hoppe, Chris Rud, Taylor Hradsky and Tarissa Laughton.
