Olson's Star Lake proposal to be topic of meeting

Posted: Saturday, December 01, 2007

Sen. Mary Olson, DFL-Bemidji, is inviting area residents interested in protecting and enhancing Minnesota lakes to a meeting at the state Capitol from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday in room 123.

Her Star Lake proposal is a voluntary partnership between lakeshore residents, lake association residents and the public regarding water quality issues.

Residents or associations that commit to best management criteria, volunteer personnel for monitoring and enforcement and meet certain standards would have their lakes designated as Star Lakes. This designation would make the site a priority for public access infrastructure needed to control invasive species, water monitoring, testing and clean-up and a possible revolving loan fund to assist with compliance issues.

Those interested in attending the meeting may contact Olson's office at (651) 296-4913.
