ST. CLOUD -- Brainerd's Mike Baker scored a short handed goal off a pass from Zach Lundbohm at the 7:33 mark in overtime to lift the Warriors past St. Cloud Tech 3-2 Tuesday in a Central Lakes Conference boys hockey game.
Baker also picked up an assist on a Kiel Browne power play goal in the first period and Zach Post added another goal in the opening period to give Brainerd an early 2-1 lead.
The Warriors also got a big boost from their penalty kill, shutting out St. Cloud Tech seven times
"It wasn't our best game but we played well enough to win," Warriors coach Ty Eigner said. "Our penalty kill was outstanding. It's always good to get a win on the road
"And a short handed goal in overtime is always a nice thing."
Brainerd goalie Nick Whichello picked up his second win of the season, stopping 30 Tiger shots.
"Nick was very good again for us in goal," Eigner said. "He had some real nice saves and stopped a couple of breakaways. He kept us in the game and gave the team a chance to win."
