PIERZ -- Opposing teams know how good Flecia Foster, Teresa Parker and Chelsa Schwegel are.
What the rest of the Pequot Lakes girls' basketball team wants opponents to know is that there are more players on the team.
In Friday's 73-53 non-conference victory over the Pierz Pioneers, Pequot's role players played their roles.
Lauren Anderson and Jackie Doty came off the bench to add four points each. Kristin Willer scored two points on a putback and Mandie Roggenkamp landed a second-quarter 3-pointer and finished with five points.
"That was really big," said Parker. "We're hoping they improve a lot this year because we need a lot of help from them. When they get older they're going to have a really good team because they have some really good players around that age."
But again the story was Foster and Parker.
Parker grabbed a triple-double with 23 points, 10 blocked shots and 15 rebounds. Foster drained three 3-pointers to lead all scorers with 31 points.
Foster scored 12 points in the second quarter, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Her scoring outburst helped Pequot close out the opening half with a 16-6 run for a 43-28 halftime lead.
"We really didn't set up our offense because they were pressing us so much," said Pequot coach Bob Nelson. "We were getting so many shots on the break. Until the second half I only think we set it up a couple of times.
"I think we were getting through their press pretty well and getting good shots. Then we were trying to run back with them. When we were doing that it seemed like we were playing pretty good defense."
Foster added 10 points in the third quarter as the Patriots jumped out to a 12-0 run, opening up a 55-28 lead.
"We missed free throws," said Pierz coach Rick Sczublewski. "I was critical of our team at halftime.
"One of our goals was to get Parker or Foster in foul trouble. We wanted to get those kids out of the game by taking it to the hoop. We did that but we have to finish too. We had to finish, either making the shot or the free throws and, unfortunately, we didn't make some free throws."
Pierz was 15-of-25 from the foul line.
