St. Joseph's Medical Center will have their Tree of Life lighting ceremony at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria. Anyone can donate to the Tree of Life. Each $5 donation will light a bulb in memory or recognition of a loved one. Donors may honor as many persons as they wish. Persons who cannot attend but would like to make a donation should make checks payable to St. Joseph's Foundation and mail to 523 N. 3rd St., Brainerd, MN 56401. Contributions are used to help provide care to home care and hospice patients and their families. Donors are acknowledged in St. Joseph's summer edition of the HeartBeat.

Brainerd Area Zonta Club
State Senator Don Samuelson recently gave a legislative update to members of the Brainerd Area Zonta Club. He spoke on a wide range of topics including his duties as President of the Senate, upcoming legislation, the Twins and the stadium debate, and fiscal issues involving tax reform and education. He also addressed more local topics such as future Highway 371 developments, the effects of redistricting and ways in which he helps his local constituents.

The Brainerd Lions Club will have a spaghetti dinner serving from 5:15-7:15 p.m. Monday at the Brainerd Elks Lodge in Brainerd. Donation is $4 per person. The proceeds will benefit the University of Minnesota Children's Eye Clinic.

The Brainerd Auxiliary to the Shrine Hospital for Children will meet at Monday at the VFW Club Rooms for their Christmas luncheon. Social hour will be at noon. The chicken kiev luncheon will begin at 12:30 p.m. Gale Eastwood will speak about how he trains seeing eye dogs. Members are reminded that those who haven't paid their dues should pay them now.
Ray's Promenaders will have a Christmas potluck dinner and square dance at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Baxter Elementary School. Bring all food ready to serve and a food shelf donation. Larry Johansen will call for the square dance at 8 p.m.

There will be a cookie walk from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd. Soup and sandwich is available for $4. All proceeds will go to the missions.
