North Dakota falls to Mankato

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) -- Nate Mauer scored two goals to lift Minnesota State-Mankato to a 6-4 victory over North Dakota Friday night.

The Mavericks broke a 4-4 with 5:04 remaining on what turned out to be a strange goal. Mavericks' skater Cole Bassett's breakaway shot was stopped by Sioux goalie Andy Kollar, but UND's Ryan Hale inadvertently knocked the loose puck into the net.

UND had tied the score three minutes earlier on freshman Andy Schneider's first career goal.

Mauer sealed the victory late in the third when he scored on an empty net.

Justin Martin and Brad Thompson notched first-period goals for the Mavericks, and Brand Bochenski scored twice for the Sioux.

The Mavericks (6-6-1, 3-5-1 WCHA) scored the first two goals of the second period. Dana Sorenson beat Kollar on a long slap shot and Mauer scored on power-play goal. Kevin Spiewak brought the Sioux (5-6-1, 4-4-1 WCHA) to within 4-3 on a wrist shot to close out the second period.

Mankato goalie Jason Jensen stopped 22 shots, while Kollar made 35 saves for UND.
