20 years ago (1989)

Joe Courneya, a native of Thief River Falls, starts Friday as the new County Extension 4-H agent. He is a graduate of NDSU at Fargo, where he earned a degree in agriculture. He is a 4-H graduate and is a former member of Future Farmers of America.

30 years ago (1979)

Three was the lucky number for the Brainerd Federation of Teachers as it won the right to act as bargaining agent for Brainerd teachers over the rival BEA by 227 votes to 204. The first election ended in a draw and the second was ruled invalid.

40 years ago (1969)

Burglars hit the DS station and caf on West Washington Street, breaking glass in a door to gain entry and taking a radio, knife, tool box and $75 cash. Burglars also entered the Persian Room beauty salon and took $125, but evidently had a key to gain entry.

60 years ago (1949)

80 years ago (1929)

The Western Electric sound equipment to be installed in the new Paramount Theatre here is the latest and most efficient made, the same as in the big theaters in New York or Chicago. The sensation created by the addition of sound to film has been exciting.

100 years ago (1909)

One of the finest bunches of deer seen in Brainerd in a long time was photographed by A.M. Opsahl in front of Wettzel's Livery Barn. There were 10 in all, two fine antlered bucks, six does and two fawns, all shot by a party from Morrison County.
