20 years ago (1986)

The report that Wadena and Brainerd Area Vocational Technical Institutes are the fastest growing in the state is good news here. It shows that the facilities are being used by citizens anxious to improve their skills and increase their knowledge.

30 years ago (1976)

The Salvation Army's Christmas Tree of Lights has gone up at the corner of Sixth and Front and a number of lights, each representing $500 of the groups'' $12,000 goal are already burning. The tree was donated by Mrs. Gladys Pike of 420 Vine Street.

40 years ago (1966)

Local hunters who annually head farther into the northern areas of the state during deer season should begin to wonder why - judging from a determination made that Crow Wing County deer average heavier than those taken elsewhere for each given age class.

A light snow fell in Brainerd today while temperatures, which slumped to 1 degree above zero during the night, made a slow rise through the day to 16 degrees at noon.

Over 100 rural school teachers from every part of Crow Wing County arrived in the city this morning to attend the annual teachers' institute.

The city council of Crookston is to provide a way for the enforcement of sidewalk cleaning. The city council of Brainerd will do well to borrow it. There is probably not a city the size of Brainerd where less attention is paid to cleaning walks of snow and ice than this city.
