BACKUS -- Gladys Sawyer, 86, Backus, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center in Pine River.
She was born May 26, 1916, in White Earth, N.D., to Arthur Sylvester and Myrtle Kimball. She attended Backus Public School. She married Leslie Sawyer on July 20, 1935. They lived in Backus. She was one of 35 members of the Church of the Nazarene in Backus.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlene Sawyer, Grand Rapids, Mariam Blackburn, Grand Rapids, and Bonnie Yungner, Backus; a son, Bill Sawyer, Backus; two sisters, Sylvia Heem, International Falls, and Fern Fundaun, Remer; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Her husband; four sisters, Althea Burnett, Geneva Sawyer, Ethelyn Alexander and Beatrice Milder; and three brothers, Jake Kimball, Wade Kimball and Bud Kimball, died earlier.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Nazarene in Backus with Pastor Phil Cox officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Backus.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River.
Memorials are preferred to the Church of the Nazarene in Backus.
