WINNEBAGO (AP) -- A dryer fire has put a crimp in production at an ethanol plant in southern Minnesota.
Fire broke out around 6 p.m. Thursday at Corn Plus in Winnebago, which is about 30 miles south of Mankato.
There are two corn dryers at the plant -- a recently installed dryer and one that has been there since the plant opened. The older dryer was the one that caught fire.
About dozen employees were in the plant when the fire broke out. They all managed to escape safely.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
The plant recently underwent an expansion and had been running at full capacity since September. The dryer fire will halt full production until repairs are made, officials said.
