Raiders replace Amundson as coach

COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Posted: Thursday, November 29, 2007

Central Lakes College Raiders women's basketball head coach Brad Amundson was released from his position Wednesday.

No replacement has been announced.

Amundson was in his third season of coaching the Raiders. He compiled a 15-41 (.268) record during his tenure. CLC is 1-5 this season.

CLC president Larry Lundblad e-mailed a statement Wednesday night.

"We are making a change to encourage team cohesiveness," Lundblad said. "We thank Brad Amundson for his effort to promote women's basketball at CLC and to recruit quality student-athletes to the team.

"My understanding from Judy Richer, dean of students, is that the change is based on a difference in philosophy and that administration is exploring a number of options regarding the coaching leadership.

Brad Amundson had a career 15-41 record at CLC

"While unable to provide you the name of who will be coaching, I sense the decision is real close but involves several important, unfinished details to be announcement-worthy."

In the wake of Amundson's departure, assistant coach Nate Hanson also will no longer be coaching at CLC.

Amundson commented in an e-mail about his departure.

"I would like to thank President Lundblad for the opportunity he gave me to coach at CLC," he said. "In addition, I would like to thank all former CLC women's basketball players and current CLC women's basketball players for the privilege to coach them and the commitment to excellence they gave us.

"Most importantly, I would like to thank Nate Hanson for his support and (beyond the call of duty) commitment to me, CLC and the women's basketball program. Central Lakes College knows that we have done nothing wrong.

"However, we both know that we need to move on to bigger and better things. Central Lakes College knows where the problem(s) are at the college. I hope in the very near future they will take care of that for the sake of future student-athletes at that school."

The Raiders' scheduled game at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D., Thursday night has been canceled and forfeited.

Steve Waller, public information specialist at CLC, said he was told the Raiders will have a coach in place for Saturday's 1 p.m. game at MSCTC-Fergus Falls.
