Area soldiers arrived safely in Kuwait after leaving Iraq.
The Minnesota Army National Guard soldiers in Company A, 1st Battalion, 194th Armor are retracing the steps they took on their way to nearly a year of duty near Baghdad.
The soldiers are scheduled to fly out of Kuwait Tuesday and arrive at Fort Dix in New Jersey late Tuesday afternoon. Capt. Mike Pazdernik, company commander, reported spirits are high. Pazdernik said he expects to be able to send a message once they arrive at Fort Dix.
Soldiers are expected to return to Minnesota the first week of December with troop buses arriving for homecoming celebrations in Brainerd, St. Cloud and Wadena on Dec. 4 or Dec. 5.
The soldiers, who served in a combat unit, were deployed Oct. 16, 2004, and, after training, arrived in Iraq in early January.
