Lucille Shaw has been named 1979 Outstanding Citizen of the Year by Community Action's selection committee. Larry Wannebo, Community Action coordinator, said Shaw was selected by the 13-member committee from 21 nominations received.

The Brainerd-Crow Wing County Ministerial group adopted a resolution opposing the Sunday sale of liquor in Brainerd. It said in part: Since those who drink have six days to do so, that non-drinkers should have one day in restaurants without alcohol present.

A third American was sought today in an arrest for arms smuggling in Manila, the Phillipines. One of the two Americans arrested was Verne Mackey, 26, of Brainerd. He was picked up in a taxi containing 22 machine guns.

In Wednesday night's bowling matches the Lions Club took the Town Pump lads for two of three games - and James Alderman chalked up a 632 count for the high league season's total thus far. He cracked out a 222, 223 and 187 for the big count.

E. R. Jones, commercial manager for the Brainerd exchange of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. says the order for phones for the Ransford Hotel was raised from 50 to 75 phones. An individual writing desk will be placed in each room.
