The Crow Wing County Board approved a drug and alcohol policy Tuesday related to the countywide transit system.
The policy is part of the Brainerd-Crow Wing County countywide transit system cooperative agreement. Brainerd has already adopted the policy.
The county and the city have been working on a proposed countywide bus service. The proposal is to expand transit service to the county and increase Brainerd's current service -- Dial-A-Ride -- by an hour on weekdays.
The purpose of the drug and alcohol agreement is to protect employees, passengers and the public from risks posed by the misuse of alcohol and prohibited drugs. The policy also is intended to comply with federal regulations governing drug and alcohol testing programs in the transit industry.
The county board also discussed forming a county transportation committee in the near future.
