CROSSLAKE -- Arlen R. "Arlie" Holmen, associate in ministry, age 70, of Crosslake, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004. Arlen was born July 5, 1934, in Laurens, Iowa, to David and Martha (Klasson) Holmen.
His family moved to Comfrey, Minn., when Arlen was 6 years old. He graduated from Comfrey High School and later received a degree in vocal music from Mankato State University. He married Myrne Current on Nov. 26, 1955, in Comfrey. Arlen served in youth ministry at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin, Minn., Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Minn., and St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Mount Prospect, Ill. He was executive director of Green Wing Bible Camp, Amboy, Ill., and Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp, Story City, Iowa. After his retirement, he served as a supply pastor for many area churches. He was a servant of Christ who loved working with children and youth and was a devoted and much loved husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Myrne; children, Sherri, Julie, Mark (Maria); granddaughter, Malyn; brothers, Dennis of Nisswa and Donald of Park Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be sent to First Lutheran Church, Pine River, and the Inner City Youth Ministry at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley.
A celebration of Arlen's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at First Lutheran Church in Pine River with Pastor John Twiton officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the service. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home of Pine River.
