CLC students plan fine arts event, Freeze Fashion II

Posted: Wednesday, November 27, 2002

The Brainerd campus Student Senate at Central Lakes College will present Freeze Fashion II, a fine arts event that includes a fashion show, essay contest and gallery art exhibit, on Dec. 11.

Proceeds will go to the campus food shelf.

The event will start at 7 p.m. with an artists' reception and exhibit in the CLC Gallery, followed by the fashion show in the cafeteria featuring students in business wear, ready wear, rough wear, formal attire, dance apparel and trend wear such as gothic, retro and interpretive style.

A cash prize incentive essay contest is open for those who submit a 500-word paper on the topic of "style." This can be personal style, artistic style or any other aspect of style. Two $100 prizes and two $50 prizes will be awarded.

"The goal is to incorporate as many of the elements of fine art as possible," said Jamie Williams, a fall graduate in photographic imaging technology and event co-coordinator along with Linford Cunningham.

Williams said the artistic elements may include dance, modeling, drama, technical theater, art and film, with the freedom of expression, precision and fluency, abstraction and realism part of the mix.

Williams organized last year's inaugural effort held on the Staples campus.

Joyce Moran, a CLC instructor, will serve as essay contest judge.

Those wishing to participate in the art exhibit portion of the event may contact Cunningham at the Student Senate office (855-8223). Deadline for submitting artwork is Monday.

Williams indicated that area high school participants are welcomed along with the college students and the public. Those under age 18 must have parental consent.

She said the cast includes the following: Fawn DeWitt, Jed Johnson, Jessica Kodada, Kisha Lynn Henderson, Judd Anderson, Brandon Flanders, Marvin Kimball, Shannon Carpenter and Jake Hood, all of Brainerd; Jamie Schall of Pillager; Ashlee DeLeon and Donnel Kist, both of Motley; Becky Pieper of Staples; and Breonna Bastian and Kati-Lyn Hjulberg, both of Crosslake.

Admission is $7, available through the Student Senate.
