Paul E. Guth, age 91, formerly of West Bend, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Baxter, Minn.
He was born on May 12, 1919, in West Bend to the late Edwin and Theresa (nee Seidensticker) Guth. He graduated from West Bend High School in the class of 1938. Paul served as a guard at the West Bend Company while they produced munitions during World War II. On Feb. 12, 1942, he was united in marriage to Ione Schloemer at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend.
Paul was a lifetime member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend, as well as former church council president. He was an avid golfer with a 12 handicap who played for many years in the West Bend Company leagues. Paul was the president of the Washington County Blood Bank for several years in the 1960s, donating more than 90 pints himself over the years. He served on the West Bend Police and Fire Commission and was on the board of directors at Samaritan Health Center.
In 1980, Paul retired from the West Bend Company where he had been working as a production control analyst. He and Ione moved to the Diamond Willow Assisted Living Center in 2006 to be closer to their daughter. Ione preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 2007.
He is survived by his daughter, Julie T. (Louise Seliski) Guth, of Ironton, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Louise (John) Roth, of West Bend, Wis.; two nieces, Penny Fitzsimmons, of West Bend, Wis., and Joan Ganzel, of West Bend, Wis.; two nephews, James (Andrea) Schloemer, of Fox Point, Wis., and John Harth, of Anchorage; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ione; parents-in-law, Julia and Henry E. Schloemer; stepfather, Henry Bahmer; two sisters-in-law, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Beulah Schloemer and Helen Schloemer; two brothers-in-law, Maurice Schloemer and Vernon Schloemer; and a nephew, Thomas Schloemer.
Funeral services in remembrance of Paul will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4 at noon at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, 809 S. Sixth Avenue, West Bend, Wis. The Rev. Jeff Dorth will officiate and lunch will follow the service. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.
