BENSON - Emily Erickson notched the season's first hat trick for the Pequot Lakes Patriots girls' hockey team in a 7-4 Section 6-1A loss to the Morris/Benson Area Storm Tuesday.
Erickson, an eighth-grader, registered her three goals in the first period. She then assisted on sophomore Haley Monson's second-period goal.
"It was fun to see some scoring early," said Patriots head coach Pat Meacham. "(Morris/Benson) was a good team. They lost to defending state champion Alexandria by one goal and outshot them Saturday. We hung with them the whole game, but again we got into that midway point of the third period and fell away. It's like we're still trying to find that extra step."
Brooke Serfling collected 20 saves and Katarina Jensen added 13 saves in her first varsity action.
