LITTLE FALLS -- Eight cars of a southbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad train derailed about 5 a.m. today in Little Falls, tearing up part of the track but causing no other property damage.
The Little Falls Police Department reported six of the eight rail cars tipped onto their sides and the other two ended up side by side.
The derailment happened in the BNSF rail yard, said Little Falls police officer Greg Shirmers. There were no injuries in the derailment.
Shirmers said it was unknown this morning what caused the train cars to derail. BNSF crews were attempting to fix the track and remove the rail cars as of 10 a.m. today, he said.
