The O'Brien Department Store will close it doors sometime in February, it was announced by Tom O'Brien, owner, and will re-open a couple of weeks later as a fashion center which will be operated by new owners.

A 68-foot white spruce tree which will adorn the lawn of the state capitol in St. Paul as Minnesota's official Christmas tree was donated by Mr. and Mrs. D.B. Ekbom, Brainerd.
60 years ago (1942)
Brainerd and Crow Wing County motorists will do their last joy riding on unlimited supplies of gasoline tomorrow and Monday. After midnight Monday, motorists will be required to use their "A" ration books and will be rationed on a basis of four gallons of gasoline per coupon.

The Dispatch has just completed the new issue of the local directory for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., which H.D. Hoffman, Brainerd manager, will have in the hands of the subscribers by December 1st.

Notice: All the barber shops in the city will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, the different proprietors of shops having signed an agreement to that effect. The shops will on this account be kept open until a late hour Wednesday night.
