ALEXANDRIA -- Junior goaltender Nick Whichello opened the Brainerd Warriors boys' hockey season in style, earning a 14-save shutout to help defeat the Alexandria Cardinals 3-0 in Central Lakes Conference action Tuesday night.
"To come out with a conference win on the road and get a win the first game of the season is a great start for these kids," Warrior coach Ty Eigner said. "We had great energy and the guys played hard. We did great on the penalty kill and it was an overall great effort."
Zack Lundbohm found the back of the net on assists by Mike Germain and Korey Horn past the four-minute mark in the second period to open the scoring.
Carl Sneep and Mike Baker assisted on a Jake Johnson goal to open the third and Baker put in the Warriors' third goal on assists from Conrad Kragness and Ryan Peltoma.
