CROSBY -- The Deerwood Devils of the Lakes Area Hockey League won their second game of the season, beating the Aitkin Chiefs 7-0 on Sunday at the Hallett Community Center.
In the other game, Pequot Lakes Halverson Law topped the Crosslake Wild 11-3.
The LAHL is an adult men's hockey league in its third season at HCC, and includes former professional, collegiate, junior and high school players. Deerwood is the two-time defending Hallett Cup champion and Pequot Lakes is the defending regular-season champ.
Standings: Deerwood 2-0, Pequot Lakes 1-1, Crosslake 1-1, Aitkin Chiefs 0-2.
Boxers open Saturday
Two members of the Golden Lakes Boxing Club will open the season on a card 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Clearwater Legion Club.
Nate Rubin will box at 125 pounds and Colin Taylor at 160.
Boosters will not
The Brainerd Sports Boosters Club will not meet Thursday because of Thanksgiving.
The club's next meeting is Dec. 2 at the Moose Lodge.
Greyhounds race past
The Duluth East Greyhounds defeated the Brainerd Warriors 68-28 in sophomore girls' basketball Tuesday. Stacey Butler and Megan Bates each scored seven points for Brainerd.
in pit crew challenge
The team of Tom Thompson of Brainerd and Don Shaw of Ham Lake competed in the first DeWalt Pit Crew Challenge Championship on Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Thompson and Shaw qualified at Richmond International Raceway with a time of 31.15 seconds. Thompson and Shaw did not win but walked away with DeWalt merchandise and a paid trip to Miami and tickets to the final races of the Busch and Nextel Cup races during Ford Championship weekend in Miami.
Nine two-person teams qualified at Pit Crew competitions across the country. Teams raced to change the front and rear tires on a modified race car using an 18-volt cordless wrench. The team that completed the event in the fastest time with 10 tightened lug nuts at each location was declared the preliminary event winner.
