Plates were full and so were the halls at the Brainerd Moose Lodge and the Crosslake American Legion community Thanksgiving Day dinners. Volunteers served 175 at the Moose and 225 at the Legion, which was sponsored by Crosslake churches.
30 years ago (1979)
A disco dance for teenagers 19 and under will be held at the YMCA on Saturday. Music will be provided by Disco Dick's Traveling Disco Show, featuring professional disc jockeys and a light and sound show.
40 years ago (1969)
A 30-year-old Brainerd man was arraigned in Municipal Court and charged with the armed robbery of the Clark station yesterday. He is accused of using a rifle to hold up station attendant Rick Bollig. The rifle and $52 cash were recovered.
60 years ago (1949)
A record crowd of 1,000 ate free Mulligan stew prepared for hunters by the Vogue Supper Club. Cooks used 300 pounds of venison, 200 pounds of potatoes, 100 pounds of carrots, 30 pounds of onions and three pounds of garlic. Only a half-gallon remained.
80 years ago (1929)
Let the stormy, wintry blasts blow said officials of the state and county highway departments. The state has 20 trucks to remove snow, 10 plows and 33 miles of snow fence. The county is ready with three plows and six miles of snow fence.
100 years ago (1909)
Nearly all the poles for the new telephone system have been set in the second and third wards and a crew is now at work on the south side. As soon as they are ready to string wire a big crew will come from Duluth to assist before inclement weather comes.
