Hotdish makes good use of turkey
The Thanksgiving feast is probably one of the most delicious and looked forward to of all holiday meals. I so look forward to the good rich gravy, mashed potatoes, roasted turkey, the stuffing, sweet potatoes and delicious pie.

Leftover solution
You probably have a turkey soup in your Thanksgiving leftovers repertoire, but this one is worth a try, too. Ginger, lemon juice and mint make it light and bright. The recipe makes use of that freshly made turkey stock you may now have on hand.

LITTLE FALLS - Morrison County sheriff's deputies on Tuesday arrested a 55-year-old Randall man following an undercover investigation into the sale of large amounts of marijuana in the county.

Highway 10/210 intersection in Staples now a four-way stop
STAPLES - A temporary four-way stop is being added at the intersection of Highway 210 and the new Highway 10 alignment in Staples until a traffic signal is installed in December, the Minnesota Department of Transportation in Baxter reported.

Aitkin open enrollment kept open
The Aitkin School Board Monday voted to keep open enrollment available for students from neighboring school districts at all grade levels, a decision made as a result of the defeated school operating levy referendums in Brainerd and Crosby-Ironton.

Citizens to have say on C-I cuts
In light of the defeated school operating levy referendum Nov. 6, Crosby-Ironton School Board members are now facing tough decisions on how to cut $1 million from the district's $12 million budget by July 1.

Open Forum: Remember, it's for the children
Many negative letters have been published since the overwhelming defeat of the District 181 referendum. These writers seem to be suffering greatly and I would like to suggest a solution. There is no regulation prohibiting monetary donations to school districts. Therefore, all of you who seem to be so disappointed by the fact your taxes will not be raised substantially are free to take action. For guidance, I offer the following proposed schedule for your donations:

Interesting how the Nisswa Chamber is suddenly all up in arms about possible school closings, when, obviously, half of the businesses in Nisswa didn't support the referendum in the first place; evident by the "Vote No" sign posted prominently in the busy Nisswa Square shopping area.

Charities deserve due process
Late last month, officials of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development were carried out of a Dallas courthouse on the shoulders of jubilant friends and relatives after a federal jury largely vindicated them of charges of providing material support to the terrorist group Hamas.

Open Forum: Tick, tock, your taxes are going up
By the time you finish reading this, property taxes statewide will have increased by another $1,000. If you are a slow reader - by as much as $2,000. You heard right - since the end of 2002, Minnesota property taxes have increased $1 thousand a minute, and are projected to increase by another $549 million next year. This brings us to a grand total of $2.7 billion - a 60 percent increase under the leadership of a governor who has No New Taxes as his mantra.

Minnesota passes the buck
You can't blame them for trying, but the efforts by local leaders from across Minnesota seemed destined to fail.

Is it Thanksgiving or Thanks-Giving?
