The Aitkin School Board Monday voted to keep open enrollment available for students from neighboring school districts at all grade levels, a decision made as a result of the defeated school operating levy referendums in Brainerd and Crosby-Ironton.
The school board decided to allow open enrollment for now until school administrators felt classroom sizes were at capacity and then they would close open enrollment by grade level if necessary, a school official said Wednesday. The district doesn't plan to hire any new teachers if there is an influx of students wishing to enroll from neighboring districts.
The district is accepting applications for open enrollment for the 2008-09 school year at this time.
