Warrior bowlers fall to Apollo

Posted: Saturday, November 22, 2003

St. Cloud Apollo defeated Brainerd 204-153, 199-183 and 175-167 Saturday at Little Falls Bowling Center to end the Warriors' bid for a state tournament berth.

In the second game, Brainerd set itself up for victory with strikes in the eighth and ninth frames. Senior Abe Kretzman made a great shot in the 10th frame but left a solid 10-pin. In the third game a one-pin count on a spare in the seventh frame and a missed 6-pin in the ninth frame cost the Warriors a victory.

Apollo defeated Sauk Rapids in the championship match to advance to the state tournament Dec. 7 at Flaherty's Bowl in Arden Hills.

Brainerd senior Chris Yde was named to the all-conference team. Kyle Bischoff was named the conference most valuable player.
